Exhibition: ‘Forget who you are and everything you know’ 24nd January-22nd February 2013
Seamus graduated from UC Falmouth. He lives in Portishead & has a studio in Bristol.
Through archways and window frames painterly engagement poses itself as avenues to pursue within his paintings. The overlapping visual information in Seamus’s paintings give the appearance of intention; however this deception of purpose eventually crumbles into abstract moments. Nevertheless, through his paintings and their titles he hope to create triggers for the viewer to impress a sense of place or environment onto the imagery in the paintings.
In its simplest form he thinks his paintings are about using geometry as a representational tool. The sharp edges and straight lines allow him to remove himself from trying to render a likeness, giving him room to be inventive with little constraints. Using a process of incessant layering he can slow the course of making down, this opens out the possibility of flooding the surface with visual information pulled from various sources and points in time. Ultimately, He hopes to find intriguing and beautiful relationships between meeting painterly languages.
