Ruth Solomons

Ruth Solomons
Exhibition: ‘Surface disturbances-evidence of biological time-part 1 8th November-5th December 2012

At all stages from the initial processes of drawing and making maquettes, to the creating and resolving of painting surfaces on a large scale, Ruth aims to become completely absorbed in the visual abstracted spaces that she is creating. The finished surfaces of paintings also get recycled into new motifs and patterns making the work self-generating. This compounds the feeling of absorption in practice for her, a mode very much adopted on a conscious level. Ruth’s motifs and their combinations into landscapes and interior spaces deftly avoid recognisability – She aims instead for the paintings to be read in a neutral zone away from personal politics and literal narrative. However she does not altogether deny any representational reading, allowing some references, for example organic branching forms, and through her use of heightened plastic colours, to float ambiguously across the surfaces.
