Exhibition: ‘Intimate Abstraction’ March 7th-April 5th 2013
John graduated from Dartington College of Arts in 1991and has since pursued a career in community arts with a strong interdisciplinary approach. For the last fifteen years he has been teaching directing and facilitating projects in some of the most complex and challenging environments and communities in London and beyond. His studio practice has been to test the limits of what a painting can be – exploring a place between paint, collage and sculpture. He is concerned to ‘expose the structure /skeleton of a painting – recycling its body parts, turning it both in on itself and on to the world’.
Recent exhibitions include a solo, ‘Vital Signs’, at the Half Moon, and ‘Grit to Gold’, with Frank Bowling and Scott O’Rourke at the Standpoint Gallery, both in London.
